LANDSCAPE

DESIGN

Happy Bear designs multi-faceted and authentically beautiful landscapes for homeowners, businesses, schools, & other public spaces. We help our clients to reimagine their land as an ecosystem which they are a part of.

Designs include plants, hardscaping features, paths and any number of other landscape elements (i.e. composting systems, gathering spaces, firepits, irrigation, etc).

Through an initial series of site analyses and conversations, we are able to use the principles of permaculture design and incorporate our clients' desires to develop a cohesive vision for what their land can become.

Initial site considerations include, but are not limited to:

  • soil type

  • fertility & bioavailable nutrients

  • sunlight throughout the seasons

  • hydrology--movement of water across the landscape

  • special landscape features & microclimates

  • localized ecology

  • wildlife/pest pressure

  • paths & access (i.e. movement of people through the landscape)

After forming a loose collaborative vision with the client, Happy Bear will then create a design that refines that vision.

1. Visual Renderings

Designs include a series of proportional sketches for all areas of the landscape included in the design.

2. Species Lists

All plants in the design are listed with recommended cultivars.

3. Written Explanations

For each "zone" within a landscape, HB will describe the needs and characteristics of different elements (plants, hardscaping) and how they relate to one another within the design.
